Frequently Asked Questions

How does in-person vs remote sessions work?

What to expect when meeting in person:
  • When you arrive, follow the signs to the waiting room and have a seat.
  • Your therapist will come and get you when they are ready.
  • The first visit is dedicated to getting to know you, your worries, and concerns.
  • Your therapist will answer any questions you may have
  • Your therapist will help guide you toward creating a comprehensive treatment plan.
What to expect when meeting virtually:
  • The day before your virtual appointment, a link will be sent to the Simple Practice virtual room.
  • If it is your first time in the room, you will be asked to download an app for the phone, computer, or tablet.
  • Once the application is downloaded, the app will request permission to access your camera and microphone.
  • After giving permission, the app will place you in the waiting room. Your therapist will join the room when they are ready for the visit.
  • Please make sure that you are in a quiet place with no distractions, where you will be able to focus on the conversation with your therapist.

What can I expect during the first appointment?

The first appointment is dedicated to getting to know you, your worries, concerns and struggles. The most important goal is to ensure that our clients feel comfortable with their therapist. If the client feels comfortable with their therapist, a quick review of initial paperwork followed by a comprehensive assessment is done with the client. The therapist gives some recommendations for treatment where we will collaborate with you on how you can get the most out of your time with us.

How can I prepare for the first appointment?

The first appointment can be somewhat anxiety producing, so the best thing to prepare is come prepared to discuss the concerns or troubles you would like to address and work on with us. Your therapist will be prepared to help you, and knows how to help you when you feel like you are stuck. Your therapist often begins with what has worked for you in the past and what has not; this helps us understand what we can do to help you.

How often should I come?

There is no “required” prescription for therapy. Typically therapy occurs once a week for the first couple months, and then goes to every-other week. It is important to remember that your input is essential to the therapeutic process. Please feel free to discuss your needs with your therapist. Your therapist will have valuable insight to help you to personalize an individual treatment plan that works best for you.

What if I’m not sure what type of therapy I need?

Our therapists at PCC have been trained in a wide array of therapeutic techniques and have years of experience. The therapists at PCC will be able to assist in finding a therapy style that works well for you. However, if you have a desired form of therapy that you wish to try, or that has worked well for you in the past, please discuss your desires with your therapist.
