My name is Dwayne Horton and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, as well as co-owner of Pinnacle Counseling Center, PLLC with my wife, Sarah. We both grew up in Orem, UT and met in our early 20s, dated for two years, and then got married in the Manti Temple in 2005.
After completing my associates degree at Utah Valley State College (now Utah Valley University) in 2003, I went to the University of Utah to study psychology. In 2008, I graduated with my Bachelor of Science degree and worked for two years managing a large diabetes study for the ADAPT (Adolescents and Parents Together) lab while I prepared for graduate school.
In 2010, I was accepted into the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Brigham Young University and completed the program in 2012. Following graduation, I began my post-graduate work at Provo Canyon Behavioral Hospital (PCBH), where I worked in a variety of roles serving clients ages 12 and up. Through my work at PCBH, I gained extensive training in treating various conditions such as addictions, suicidal ideations, self-harm, psychosis, depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, dementia and many others.
My experience working with clients at PCBH made me more empathetic and understanding of the burdens and sadness that many people carry. In 2014, I was asked to begin the process of opening an outpatient practice at Central Valley Medical Center in Nephi, UT. In 2015, I became a fully licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and was invited to work full-time with CVMC.
Nephi has been a special place for my family and me. It’s the first place where we have truly felt like we were “home.” We love the community and the surrounding areas. We were drawn to the unity, love of God and country, and commitment to family that we found in Nephi. These are the values that we wanted to instill in our children.
We founded Pinnacle Counseling Center to provide us with more flexibility to assist the community we love. At our center, we offer a variety of services such as individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as a range of specialized therapy services. Our goal is to create a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment that fosters growth and healing. We believe that therapy is a valuable tool for anyone seeking to improve their lives and relationships.
I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families overcome the challenges they face. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the Nephi community and am excited about the work that we are doing at Pinnacle Counseling Center.
